Amber Judy

I was a completely self-taught artist, until I started my college career in 2016. I took a drawing class, and a fundamentals of design class that really launched me into fine arts.  Later, I chose to take screenprinting and fell in love with the process. Graphic Design lends itself quite well to screenprinting, and I love marrying the two when I can. I’ve recently picked up woodblock carving and printing and love the learning process that’s involved.  Jewelry & metalsmithing is my first love, and I will always be making jewelry even if I tend to take a lot of time off from it.

In my paintings, I work with a limited palette forcing myself to mix my own colors. I enjoy the process of discovering a color or how to use a color. My favorite to mix is blacks and greys, pushing and pulling their undertones.

I make art to make me happy, and if it can bring happiness to others, even better. My art may not be technically flawless or have engaging compositions… it’s all about the process. Mark making is meditation and some days you have more to get off your chest. I hope that comes through in at least some of my work. I want to have people be self-aware in those few moments they’re viewing the art. I want my art not to draw you into it, but let it draw into you.

In my jewelry work, I tend to use what the industry would call “rejects” or “Grade C” stones. I love the look of these “inferior” specimens. They often have so much more character to me than their Grade AAA equivalents. I also enjoy using unusual stones and minerals that are often overlooked by the jewelry and gem industry.
