d. g. walczyk is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin but grew up along the east coast in Ellicott City, Maryland and Greenville & Clemson, South Carolina. He received a BA in English from Clemson University in 1982 and went on to study theatre in the graduate program at Illinois State University. Before completing his master’s thesis, he moved to Lancaster, PA to begin a professional theatre career as a production manager, technical director, and stage manager with the Independent Eye. His nearly 20 year theatrical career included work with the Actors’ Company of Pennsylvania, the Fulton Opera House, Mount Gretna Playhouse, The Acting Company, and others.
He is a self-taught fine art photographer, graphic artist, and printmaker. His lens has been known to zero in on landscapes and sky-scapes, garden-scapes and java-scapes, urban-scapes and nature-scapes, the overlooked and the decaying, the living and the dying. No subject is safe from examination, documentation, re-imagining, reconstruction and reinvention from initial capture through its journey in post processing to the final archival pigment print for presentation and purchase.
He has exhibited in numerous local galleries including Garth Gallery and Jonal Gallery (Columbia, PA), Hive artspace, King’s Courtyard Artists’ Collective, The Parliament (York, PA), Lancaster County Art Association (Lancaster, PA), Art Association of Harrisburg (Harrisburg, PA), and regularly participates in York Art Association member, open, and invitational exhibits and Gallery Group exhibits in alternative venues such as Off Center Grill at the Yorktowne Hotel, Martin Library Extension, the Law Offices of Richard R. Reilly, and the Cultural Alliance of York County.
He has work in the corporate collections of Shipley Energy (York, PA) and Winchester Gardens (Winchester, OH) as well as in private collections, and in 2007 had two works published in Photos That Inspire: Photo Workshop (Lynne Eodice, Wiley Publishing, Inc.)
As Daniel G. Walczyk, he is co-owner (along with his partner Shawn Young), photographer, and printing specialist at Vulcania Graphics & Fine Art LLC in downtown York, PA. Vulcania specializes in digital reproduction services for artists including digital capture, editing, and archival printing.
